Pompeii, Italy
Pompeii is a ruined city near Naples in Italy. Pompei was destroyed by an eruption of the neighbouring volcano, Vesuvius, in 79 AD. It is believed that the eruption lasted two days. Its suddenness meant that the citizens were taken by surprise and many of their remains can be seen showing them going about their daily tasks. Pompeii is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Europe.
