1. Chamonix, French Alps
Located on Mount Blanc, the highest European Mountain, Chamonix is not only the oldest of the various French Ski resorts, it is also the most famous of them.
Chamonix is also renowned for its cable car, that was once the highest
in the world and the fact that it has hosted the Winter Olympics. There
are over three hundred separate pistes at the Chamonix resort and it is
popular with snowboarders, mountaineers paragliders and even mountain
bikers. Although the popularity of the resort is beyond question it can
be extremely crowded, particularly during the very busy
vacation months of the
high season.
