 Travel Insurance – Pre-existing conditions

We all know that it makes sense to take out travel insurance. Even if we are travelling in our home country, there is the possibility of loss or theft of our belongings or of an accident, all of which may be covered by your travel insurance and prevent you from suffering financial losses.

However, where the need for travel insurance is all the more important is where you are leaving the country and travelling abroad. In certain parts of the world the risk of falling ill whilst on holiday can bring with it a massive risk of incalculable financial cost and the need to insure is obvious.

Certain countries in Europe have reciprocal treatment schemes for its member citizens. These allow partial cover for the cost of treatments and most insurance companies require that you avail yourself of this but if you are a European travelling beyond one of those territories or a traveller who has no such protection, then a travel insurance policy is vital, particularly when you consider that you might need to be repatriated as a consequence of your ill health on holiday or that you may need to spend many weeks or months in a privately funded hospital or, worse, even both!

Travel insurance policies are pretty good value when set against the potential cost of you being taken ill whilst away from home. However, there is one piece of small print in all travel insurance policies that the traveller must be aware of.
