Fuertenventura 1990
Memorable for many reasons. Fuertenventura was beautiful. My daughter, who was then aged sixteen, met her first serious boyfriend and it was the first time that I had ever spent Christmas away from home. Travel is all very well but it still did feel strange to have Christmas day on the beach.
The holiday didn't go too well and insult was added to injury when
we got home to find that the house had been burgled on Christmas Eve
and al of the children gifts removed. One that is best forgotten
-but you can't help remembering the bad as well as the good.
West Coast of Ireland 2000
One broken marriage later
and with my then to be new girlfriend and my present wife, I set off
to Ireland. Undoubtedly the best short trip I have had in my life.
The people in County Galway are the best in the world. Check out
your travel sites for trips to Ireland. Go to the Renvyle Peninsula,
see the lakes and the mountains, climb St Patrick's Point. Drink
Guinness and enjoy your holiday in Ireland as much as I did.
Brown's Beach, Sri Lanka 2001
My first ever trip outside of Europe and it was perfect!
The kindness and culture of the Sri Lankan people was an innovation.
The Temple of the Tooth in Candy, the Rock fortress at Sigurya and the giant Buddha at Dambullah. My eyes were opened to a world of travel that I had never experienced before. I've been back since. In fact, I almost bought a hotel on the beach there - sis months before the tsunami. Whether it was divine intervention or not I don't know. I pulled out of the deal at the last minute because it
just didn't feel right. I haven't returned since the Tsunami.
Lanzarote
This was a memorable holiday for two reasons. The day before my wife and I were due to leave for the Costa Teguise with the two kids, she heard that her mother had a terminal illness. I took the kids on my own. They were great. They knew it was the first time I had been away without my wife and they missed her too. They behaved brilliantly and I really enjoyed their company. I still was glad to get back home though.
Fesdu Island, Maldives
This was the single most indulgent holiday I can remember. It was all-inclusive, the food was great, the weather was brilliant and the sea and the snorkelling was wondrous. Anyone looking to find a travel deal that is near perfection should check out the sites and find yourself a great travel deal for the Maldives.
